Big Bump

On the heels of patting myself on the back for my super running mileage in July, I thought it only appropriate to share that upon stepping on the scale at my latest OB check up I learned I'd gained 10 LBS since my last appointment.

My doctor peered curiously over the chart and asked "any idea what caused the big jump in weight?"

"Heavy shoes?" I suggested with a hopeful grin.

She didn't seem to take me seriously, perhaps because the sandals I had on weren't much more substantial than those you receive for a pedicure at the nail salon.

Once home I went back to the calendar to see if it hadn't in fact been 5 weeks since my last appointment, which would have somehow eased some of the sting.

Alas, I think it was less than four. Damn.

That said, I made a brilliant discovery this past weekend at blogher...MAMA SPANX! How about that stroke of genius. See you later 10 lbs. I barely look a day over 5 months with them on.

Thank you clever designers of Spanx. Those puppies be headed back to the OB with me in two weeks to see what miracles they may be able to perform on the scale :)

not ready yet...

baby, baby, stay inside...

wow - lots to do in February. everyone is asking if I'm ready for the pregnancy to be over. no way! beyond the fact that I love all the secret nudges, hiccups, poking elbows and toes; and not taking into account the amazing natural high I've been riding for months due to racing hormones; I'm just not ready yet.

no matter how much I do , there seems to still be so much left undone. lots of goals next weekend, which is long due to the holiday and free of any obligations or classes. I must wrap up the remaining items.

the other major factor, which no one but me seems to realize- is that it is so easy to carry the kangaroo inside, the chaos really hits once he's outside. what's the rush??

though I'll admit, I had Bid's little bundle curled up on my chest for an hour this weekend and it was pretty awesome (he's just seven days old). I do want to meet our little guy, just need a bit more time to make his welcome perfect...

A quick update - I think I'm over it. I can't guarantee that I won't continue to joke about it, but I think I'm mentally beyond the getting fat thing.

I can't really explain what brought it on or why it's no longer as troublesome. I think maybe I had a big growth spurt last week and it kind of freaked me out.

And I kinda liked the idea that it wasn't immediately evident that I was expecting - like a little secret I had and could share as I wished. But now my posture is changing. I have to work pretty hard to keep myself aligned and not carry all the baby weight incorrectly (per my glorious pilates instructors). And sleeping (or rather flipping over in my sleep) isn't as effortless as it once was. The best though is getting in and out of the car. Ha! The SUV is fine, I just spill out. But the sedan? Comical and needs to be surprisingly calculated to ensure I make it out with all my belongings in one try without straining something.

Anyway, the point is I get it. I knew it before but it is somehow more real now. It really isn't about me at all.

Just in time too - because once you try on a maternity bathing suit (we're going to the beach in Jan), there is really no looking back :)

And you know what? It's pretty cute.
